Responsibilities

  • Install heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential and commercial buildings.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to determine installation requirements.

  • Select and procure the necessary materials, equipment, and tools for HVAC installation projects.

  • Measure, cut, and assemble ductwork and piping systems to connect HVAC components.

  • Install and connect HVAC equipment, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation systems.

  • Ensure that HVAC systems are properly aligned, leveled, and secured.

  • Install electrical wiring and controls to connect HVAC components, ensuring they meet local electrical codes.

  • Test HVAC systems to verify proper installation and functionality, making necessary adjustments and repairs.

  • Charge and evacuate refrigerant systems for air conditioning units, adhering to environmental regulations.

  • Insulate ductwork and pipes to improve energy efficiency and prevent heat loss or condensation.

  • Calibrate and program HVAC control systems, thermostats, and other devices for optimal performance.

  • Collaborate with other tradespeople, such as plumbers and electricians, to coordinate installations in complex projects.

  • Provide guidance and training to apprentices and junior installers.

  • Maintain accurate records of materials used, work performed, and hours worked for billing and reporting purposes.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC system issues and recommend solutions for repairs or upgrades.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, technology advancements, and safety regulations.

  • Comply with all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Communicate with clients to explain the installation process, answer questions, and provide maintenance recommendations.


Qualifications

  • Possession of EPA certification

  • Familiarity with OHS regulations and a commitment to workplace safety

  • A clean driver's abstract and a valid driver's license

  • A clean background check

  • State or local HVAC licensing or certification, if required in the area of employment

  • 1-2 years of proven experience as an HVAC installer or a related field

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and installation techniques

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools used in HVAC installations

  • Familiarity with local building codes

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to diagnose and repair HVAC system issues

  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure precise installation and alignment of components

  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment and materials

  • Effective communication skills to interact with clients and team members

  • Time management skills to meet project deadlines and work efficiently

  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
